Tour difficulty/skill rating

Tour difficulty is based on the type of terrain and the strenuousness of the days. Each track segment will show the level of difficulty and provide bypass routes. Each tour includes the overall level based on the more difficult points. Check the rideBDR website for more info on their routes

Level 1- pavement and maintained gravel roads.

Level 2- adds un-maintained roads with ruts, sand and steep sections.

Level 3- adds in two track, water crossings and loose rocky sections. Cinnamon Pass and the White Rim trail are good examples.

Level 4 - adds single track, ledgy steps and exposure with a high consequence for error. Lockhart basin Hurrah pass (an optional section on the UT BDR).

Level 5- If the route has all of the above and lots of it the it gets a level 5. The 2500 miles and 14-15 days of the continental divide trail would get this rating.
